How To Trade on the Emmy Awards

Betting on the Emmys is now legal in the U.S. Learn how it works, where to trade, strategy tips and updated odds for Emmy Award nominees.

Emmy Awards Trading Primer

There is no greater honor for a TV actor than winning an Emmy Award for their work on a television project. The Oscars are the pinnacle of the film industry, the Grammys are the pinnacle of the music industry, and the Emmys are the pinnacle of the television industry.

The Emmy Awards are highly anticipated, and throughout the year, potential contenders are discussed before the official nominations are announced. On the top prediction platform, Kalshi, U.S. traders have been legally trading on the Emmy Awards since April 20, 2025.

What are the Emmys?

The Emmys began on January 25, 1949 — 76 years ago. Initially, the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences launched the Emmys to honor only shows based in Los Angeles. It was soon expanded to spotlight television programs nationwide.

The Emmys most people are familiar with is the Primetime Emmys, but there are also the Daytime Emmys, Sports Emmys, News and Documentary Emmys, the new Children’s & Family Emmy Awards, and a few others.

Where to watch the 77th Emmys

The next one will be the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards, scheduled for September 14, 2025. Until 2026, the Big Four networks — ABC, Fox, NBC, and CBS — continued an agreement to rotate broadcasting the Emmy Awards. For the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards, the ceremony will air on CBS and stream on Paramount+.

Who will host the 77th Emmys?

On April 16, 2025, comedian Nate Bargatze was announced as the host of the 77th Emmys. According to Paramount’s press release, “he broke 20 total arena records” in 2024. He was also the highest-earning comedian last year. And he hosted Saturday Night Live for the second time in the fall of 2024. Clearly, the team behind the Emmys wanted to have a big name to emcee their next Emmys.

How to bet on the Emmys (and why is it legal)?

As previously mentioned, you can trade on the 77th Emmys via prediction market platforms. This is a new form of financial derivatives markets where traders can purchase binary “Yes” or “No” contracts on based on future event outcomes.

Emmy trading tips

1. Bet Early, Before the Buzz Hits

Markets are quiet early on, which means prices are lower and more volatile. If you believe a show is a sleeper hit, lock in your prediction before the hype (and price) builds. And keep track of the markets and how they move. Bookmark pages like this one to check the market daily.

2. Don’t Let Personal Favorites Cloud Your Judgment

Loving a show doesn’t mean it’ll win. Separate your personal taste from Emmy trends — awards voters don’t always align with fans.

3. Read the Pros, Not Just Twitter

Follow seasoned awards analysts and critics who’ve tracked Emmy outcomes for years. Their predictions are based on industry patterns, not hype. This means you can browse through platforms like Reddit, Instagram, TikTok, Twitter, and others. Don’t just stick to one expert – there are experienced pros on many platforms.

4. Look at Past Trends, But With Caution

While history can offer clues (certain genres or streaming platforms tend to dominate), remember the voting body evolves. However, past wins aren’t a guarantee of future success.

5. Pay Attention to Category Placement

Some shows shift categories (such as transitioning from drama to limited series) or are moved into less competitive slots. These changes can significantly impact their chances, especially in tight races. For example, a mainstream actor placed in a supporting role may be more likely to win in that category, as in the category of Drama Actor.

Turn TV passion into financial positions

If you follow TV and love watching the Emmys, prediction markets could present a prime opportunity for you to turn your passion and hunches into cold hard cash, if you can accurately predict Emmy winners and make smart trades.

Just remember, as with any type of financial trading or speculation, there is always financial risk involved. We encourage you to keep the above tips in mind before you trade and hope you enjoy the show.
