‘Agatha All Along’ Conjures High Hopes from Reviews and Prediction Markets

“Agatha All Along” is finally here, and no one knew what was in store. Even Kathryn Hahn, who plays the titular character Agatha Harkness, didn’t anticipate getting her own show.

After appearing on the wildly popular “Wandavision” in 2021, viewers were excited to see Agatha Harkness revealed towards the end of the original show. The reaction was so overwhelmingly positive that news of her own spinoff followed later that year. It’s no surprise the project is highly anticipated, with Kalshi users placing bets on its ratings a week before its release.

The new show, Disney +/Marvel’s “Agatha All Along,” picks up after the events of “WandaVision.” In Wandavision, Agatha (Hahn) no longer has powers thanks to the Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen).

In “Agatha,” she creates her own coven in an attempt to regain her powers. The star-studded cast includes Aubrey Plaza, Joe Locke, and Patti LuPone. This show also has the same showrunner as “WandaVision” – Jac Schaeffer.

What do the reviews of ‘Agatha All Along’ say?

Three years later, “Agatha All Along’s” first episode is finally out and the reviews are rolling in. So far, they are mostly positive with a few negative reviews mixed in. As of the publishing of this article, “Agatha All Along” has a 79% score from the critics. But on Kalshi, a platform where users can bet on the likelihood of an event, the predictions went on a bit of a rollercoaster.

The market started on Sept. 11, when little by little, the cast began promoting the movie through press appearances. The day before, Aubrey Plaza vs. Patti LuPone had already appeared on the popular show, “Hot Ones Versus”

At this point, most of the predictions are based on hype because reviews and reactions won’t come out until a day before the release date. On Sept. 13, in honor of Friday the 13th, Disney released retro character posters for the show. This led to a temporary boost in the predicted forecast before returning to about 77%.

There were no social media reactions from critics until Sept. 17, likely due to an embargo preventing posts until that date. Similarly, reviews on sites like Variety and IndieWire went live on Sept. 18 at 9:00 p.m. EDT, suggesting the review embargo was lifted at that time.

Prior to the social media reactions, the predictions had stabilized around 80%. Once social media reactions were released, the prediction shot up to 83% before falling down and stabilizing around 79%. After reviews were released at 9 p.m. ET on Sept. 18, the forecast dropped to 70%.

By the time the Kalshi market closed on Sept. 19 at 10:00 a.m. EDT, the final forecast closely matched the Rotten Tomatoes score at that time. However, as more reviews have come in, the Rotten Tomatoes score has risen to its current 79%.

In comparison to other MCU shows, “Echo” had a 70% Rotten Tomatoes critics score and was the last MCU show to be released. The 79% for “Agatha All Along” would make it MCU’s highest-rated TV show since 2022’s “She-Hulk: Attorney at Law,” which also received a 79%.

As more reactions come in, fans will be eager to see if “Agatha All Along” can truly capture the magic that made “WandaVision” a success.
